Hull Dance Youth Company and Creative Voice
Hull Dance aims to develop professional opportunities for young people in dance by widening access, raising the quality of dance, and improving progression routes. It works with Hull College, Wilberforce Sixth Form College and Wyke Sixth Form College. It also supports the work of Hull and East Riding Youth Dance Hub and Creative Voice, which aims to create dance routes for young people across the sub-region. This will include opportunities for both young people and dance practitioners. Creative Voice is the name for youth arts in Hull.
Hull Dance Youth Company is well-established and is currently working with Hull Dance Prize 2015/2016 winners Lo:cus Dance Theatre and Ceyda Tanc Dance who are Brighton based and performed last February, as part of the Hull Dance season.
Hull Dance Youth Company have created a new Turkish contemporary inspired piece AKI, exploring the idea of constant flux with reference to the forthcoming Hull 2017 season “Roots and Routes”.
The Company have performed at Fresh 2012/13/14/15/16, and the Youth Dance England Platform U Dance 2013. They will be performing ‘AKI’ at Fresh at The West Yorkshire Playhouse Saturday 1 April.
The Company have also worked with Yorkshire Dance on a choreograhic project called “Dance Whispers” using inspiration from the English National Youth Dance Company, Sadlers Wells.
